How to interpret the result
A rarity label describes one exact spelling in one SSA category and year. It is not a permanent quality of the name. A spelling can be rare nationally while being familiar in a particular family, language community, or region.
Rank and recorded births answer different questions. Rank shows relative position among names in the same year and category, while birth count shows how many recorded babies received that spelling. Compare both before calling a name common or rare.
